Skin type 1
Dry
Dry skin can be temporary or seasonal — you might get it only in winter, for example — or you might need to treat it long term. Signs and symptoms of dry skin might vary based on your age, health status, skin tone, living environment, sun exposure and diet.
Symptoms
- A feeling of skin tightness
- Skin that feels and looks rough
- Itchiness
- Slight to severe flaking skin, which causes the ashy look that can affect dry brown and black skin
- Slight to severe scaling or peeling
- Fine lines or cracks
- Skin that ranges from reddish on white skin to grayish on brown and black skin
- Deep cracks that may bleed

Skin type 2
Oily
Oily skin happens when the sebaceous glands in the skin make too much sebum. Sebum is the waxy, oily substance that protects and hydrates the skin.
Sebum is vital for keeping the skin healthy. However, too much sebum can lead to oily skin, clogged pores and acne. Managing oily skin often requires making regular skin care a habit – wash regularly (warm water), use an alcohol-free toner, pat face dry, use blotting papers, use natural facial masks and apply natural moisturizers.
Symptoms
- A shiny or greasy appearance.
- Very large or obvious pores on the skin.
- Skin that looks thick or rough.
- Occasional or persistent pimples.
- Clogged pores and blackheads.

Skin type 3
Normal
Combination skin usually feels oily in the T-zone (the area that includes your forehead, nose, and chin) but dry everywhere else. It can also be oily and dry in different locations, but if you notice two or more different textures on your face, it is a sign that you have combination skin.
Skin never stays exactly the same as it may easily be affected by seasonal and hormonal changes. While these are factors to take into consideration, there are also some more definitive signs that you may have combination skin.
Symptoms
- Your t-zone (forehead, down the nose to the chin) is oily, while your cheeks are dry.
- Your skin is oilier in summer and dry in winter. In spring and fall, your T-zone is oily while your cheeks are dry.
- When you are on your period, your skin may experience breakouts causing you to think your skin is oily. But once your period is over, the breakouts clear right up and your skin can become flaky.
